MV seniors were ready to dance at Snow Whirl.

The Mt. Vernon annual Snow Whirl dance was on Saturday, December 9, 2017. The theme for this year’s formal was a medieval masquerade, titled “A Knight to Remember.” Many MV students showed up masked, and ready to dance.

Every year, Snow Whirl is hosted by the MV Music Department as a fundraiser for the choir and band programs. Most of the props and centerpieces used at Snow Whirl were from the marching band’s fall show, “The Knight.” The theme this year was inspired directly from the band’s show.

Many of the booster parents volunteered their time, serving punch and cookies to the students in the gym. As students walked in, they were given three tickets. One of the tickets was for the photo booth that was set up along the wall of the gym, and the other two were for voting for Snow Whirl King and Queen.

This year’s Snow Whirl King and Queen were Cody Smitley and Leah Peters.

Smitley said, “I’m so I’m glad to have won and it was 10 times better that I won with my best friend, she’s my world.”

The DJ, as usual, was Andrew Okerson. He continued the traditions of playing “You and Me” by Lifehouse for the King and Queen dance, and ending the night with “Don’t Stop Believing,” by Journey.

This year, over two hundred more people bought tickets than last year. The dance sold out on Friday, December 8.

Halle Strege, 11, said,“It was so much fun. Probably one of the best Snow Whirl’s I’ve been to so far.”
