The start of the school year means the return of marching band. Here is what some band members have to say about this year’s season.

“Over the summer we had two different camps, in June we had 5-9 practices for two weeks and in July we had 12-9 practices for 2 weeks,” said Haley Merida, 10. “I think that this year’s show is going to be really great, I’m fairly confident that we will score very well at competitions. I’m excited to see how the show will come together and where we will place at state finals.”

All the band students have confidence in their abilities, and the show.

“We had band camp in June and July. We learned music for our show called The Knight, learned how to march with proper technique, and learned drill, which are the points we go to in a certain amount of counts in order to make a picture,” said Lauren Vest, 11. “I expect this year to go pretty well because of how much potential there is in the group.”

Vest continued, ”Most of the people that are in it care and are willing to work as hard as possible in order to make this the best season ever. I am really excited to have fun with the seniors and make their last year one of the best ones. I know as a group we will end up doing very well and hope to end up with top 3 at finals which would make it even better for the seniors.”

The seniors have hopes for their final year of marching band.

Andrew Roembke, 12, said, “We have high hopes for this year. This is the best designed show I have participated in during high school, and we have a solid chance to win state this year. I believe many will be entertained during the football games by the music and visual that go with it.”

Marching band practices are continuing through the season every Tuesday and Thursday at 6-9 pm, with the occasional Saturday practice. Members are  working intensely to succeed in competition this year, and are looking forward to it.
