The Russian invasion of Ukraine took place over two years ago and the war is still ongoing. Negotiations are still beyond reach due to the stark resistance of the Ukrainians to any talks on Russian terms.
The past few months have been relatively devoid of major confrontations due to the severity of the winter. The war has landed in a stalemate. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been visiting allied nations to gather support for a summer counteroffensive. However, due to the failure of the last counteroffensive, world leaders are much more resistant this time. Despite the resistance, he has secured 100 Leopard 2 battle tanks and several hundred other armored vehicles.
In more recent news, Russia launched its largest aerial bombardment of Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The attack included over 122 missiles and 36 drones. The attack killed at least 30 civilians and injured more than 140.
Along with this massive attack, the Russian elections will take place in March. Vladimir Putin is hoping to be re-elected. This is likely because all his major opponents have either been exiled or are in jail.
The conflict is heating up again as spring rolls around, as both sides gear up for a potentially bloody summer.
