Mission Statement

MVC, an online publication produced by students of Mt. Vernon High School, was founded to be a reliable, unbiased, and credible news source for the student body and community of MVCSC. Our news is reported through a variety of outlets to provide timely and informational updates without bias to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or social creed.

Submit to MVC

MVC encourages students and community members to submit letters to the editor, request coverage, or submit original content. To do so, email Shannon Schiller. Only students at MVHS may submit letters to the editor and must do so through their school email address.

Publication Policies

Opinion Article Policy

As a news-oriented publication outlet, MVC tries to maintain an unbiased and fair representation of events in news stories. In columns and editorials, however, the opinion and voice of the reporter is expressed. These views do not represent MVC, Mt. Vernon High School or MVCSC as a whole. MVC is under no obligation to seek out views that differ from staff reporters. However, MVC will post different views if and when those opinions are submitted to us appropriately.

 Advertising Policy

Any advertisements for businesses (local or otherwise), upcoming events, clubs or activities, etc. are accepted in MVC, providing that they do not contain vulgar, slanderous, offensive language or demeaning messages. Please contact [email protected] for any further questions concerning advertisement.

The staff reserves the right to refuse advertising based on content appropriate for MV students.

Byline Policy
  • Articles with more than two producers will not include a byline and will be credited to MVC Staff.
  • All bylined writers will be held accountable for their work and its accuracy.
  • All pictures, graphics, columns, articles, videos, reviews and other original material will the exception of staff editorials will be bylined with the writer’s name.

  • MVC values the opinion of its readers and encourages them to discuss its content, whether by mouth or by commenting.
  • Comments containing obscene, suggestive, vulgar, profane (including letters followed by dashes or symbols), threatening, disrespectful, or defamatory language will not be published and will be reported to the administration.
  • Attacks on groups or individuals based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, or social creed will not be tolerated in any form
  • All threats are and will be taken seriously. If MVC is worried for someone’s safety, the comment and related identifying information will be passed along to relevant authorities and/or the school administration to be dealt with accordingly.
  • All comments are approved by MVC staff. Comments are reviewed as often as possible. This process results in a delay of anywhere from a few hours to a day before a comment is posted. Please be patient for your comment to be approved of.
  • Do not misrepresent yourself by using someone else’s name or adding something to the end of your name. MVC does not allow anonymous comments and requires a valid email address and name to allow commenting. Your email address will not be displayed but will be used to confirm your comments.
  • MVC is open to strong opinions and criticism of its work, as any news outlet should, but MVC does not publish comments discussing its policies and practices. Please stay on topic. Any discussion of policies and practices can go to shannon.schiller@mvcsc.k12.in.us.
  • Likewise, MVC welcome strong opinions and criticism of our reporters work. However, personal attacks on reporters’ will not be published or tolerated.
  • If you feel strongly that something was reported poorly, or strongly disagree with an opinion, we encourage you to submit a full article or commentary on the subject: guest columns can be emailed to [email protected].
  • The views expressed in comments are solely the authors’ and do not reflect the views of MVC, Mt. Vernon High School, or MVCSC.
  • Once submitted, comments become the property of MVC.

Corrections and Errors Policy

Grammatical and factual errors will be corrected in an orderly timely fashion as soon as they are detected. When this is done, MVC will indicated that a story has been updated and why it has been at the bottom of each post. If you find an error, please let the reporter know by commenting on the story or emailing MVC at [email protected].
