Being healthier is a common goal for a lot of people, but it is not always the easiest goal, especially if the mindset is to completely eradicate certain foods from a diet. A simple way to start changing one’s diet is by adding rather than taking away: specifically, adding more superfoods to it.
In order to start eating more of them, one must first understand what a superfood is. According to Medical News Today, superfoods are “foods that offer maximum nutritional benefits for minimal calories. They are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.” Since these foods are so good for the body, they can be included in everyday diets.
It is easy to start including these into a diet, especially since the most common superfoods are berries and leafy greens. Acai, blueberries, cranberries, goji berries, raspberries and tart cherries are perfect berries to include. Some benefits of the berries are a reduced risk of heart attacks, due to the berries being filled with vitamins C, K and E, as well as providing antioxidants. These berries can be eaten fresh or included in a fun smoothie or with sides.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Leafy greens are a great option to be included in a diet because they also hold necessary vitamins like A, C and E, and possibly prevent cancer. In this superfood group, there are so many options to choose from, all with amazing benefits of their own. Some greens to include are arugula, bok choy, collard greens, kale, spinach and watercress.
There are so many other superfoods that are easy to incorporate into an everyday diet; the biggest thing is that the diet change is enjoyed by the person changing it. Some other examples of superfoods to look into are avocados, grapes, beets, cinnamon, tea, pumpkin and yogurt. People should enjoy what they are eating, which should be the goal along with incorporating superfoods into a diet.
Superfoods are healthy for the body and there are so many options to choose from, which is why their inclusion in a diet is one way to move toward a healthier lifestyle.
