After almost eight long years, the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” (FNAF) movie is finally out. The movie was met with the anticipation of many fans of the game, and was released on October 27, 2023. Alongside its theatrical release, it was also shown on the streaming service Peacock.
What is FNAF? FNAF started off as an indie game created by Scott Cawthon. An indie game is a game made by an independent creator, usually working by themselves or with a very small team, versus games associated with large companies. However, this game did not stay indie for long. It quickly grew a large community and lore behind the games.
Since the first FNAF, there have been over 20 games, including games following the series, spin offs, and even troll games. Following this popularity, the FNAF movie was announced in April of 2015.
Emma Tammi is the director of the FNAF movie, with Blumhouse being the company responsible for the release. In its theatrical release, this movie has made over $78 million at the box office.
I have been a FNAF fan for a while now. Not as long as most, but I know all the lore and follow the games. This movie gives me mixed feelings. I think many FNAF fans will like this movie. For the fan service it presents with references, easter eggs and even cameos. I loved this aspect of the movie; it only makes sense considering Scott Cawthon was on set overseeing production of the film.
With all that being said, everything else about this movie was just okay to me. I would not recommend this movie to anyone who is not a fan of FNAF already, or at least knows the lore of the franchise. It would just be too confusing. This movie expects its audience to know the lore and to know what they are going into, and so will not make much sense at all to any viewers who have not already seen the premise or played the games.
I also think that this is a horrible horror movie. I only see it as the FNAF movie, nothing else. It is more or less a thriller. There are deaths and gore, but it is nothing to be scared of. I was hoping for an actual horror movie.
The FNAF movie was a good movie for the FNAF fans, but the movie by itself is just a lame horror movie. I would also recommend not going into this movie without knowing the premise and lore of the games. I rate this movie a six out of ten. I would recommend watching it to people who adore the world of FNAF.
