Indy Scream Park was back to terrify visitors for the 14th year in a row. Along with the five original attractions, Lockdown was added as the sixth attraction for the 2023 Halloween season.
There were four types of admission that a visitor could pay for when deciding to visit. The general admission, the general admission added with the VIP fast pass, the general admission with the super VIP fast pass and groups of over twenty people with general admission and VIP fast pass. Prices may vary depending on the date the buyer chooses to attend, but it usually rounds from $33 to $98 for one person.
There are six attractions that were available in 2023: Lockdown, Killgore’s 3D Circus, Zombieland: Unchained, Backwoods, Nightmare Factory: Blackout and Zombie Paintball Assault.
The tickets did not cover the Zombie Paintball Assault, which had different packages, including the recruit package, the specialist package and the sniper package. Those determine how many paintballs the buyer gets to shoot. Prices started at $12 and ended at $23 for this separate attraction.
I had the VIP fast pass when I went, which meant that I got to skip the lines of the attractions, excluding Zombie Paintball Assault, and it took about two hours to go through the whole park. As a tip, getting the VIP fast pass will help visitors get to see the attractions faster and most will be able to see all of the attractions in one night.
Is it worth it to pay all of that money to see all the attractions? Both yes and no.
Although I still had fun, the park was underwhelming for what I expected from it. Some of the attractions such as Lockdown and Killgore’s 3D Circus were predictable with how they would look and when visitors would get jump scared by the actors, and they seemed to go by fairly fast. Which is why I say that it may not be worth it to some visitors. But, it does get fairly cold outside during October, which is why it is a nice thing to have some sort of VIP pass so that the cold and waiting are not big issues.
The first attraction I visited was Lockdown and the second was Killgore’s 3D Circus, these were both underwhelming to me. It was like an anti-drop, which is when a scene in a movie or part in a song builds up and then ends up with a calm tone. I felt the buildup of fear and then nothing came. The decorations were very well done though.
The third and fourth attractions I went to were Nightmare Factory: Blackout and Backwoods, which were by far the best ones in the whole park. Nightmare Factory: Blackout was just as the name describes, a blackout. It was dark and the walls were narrow, which gave me the anticipation and anxiety of not knowing where I was going. Backwoods was outside in the woods, there was a long trail with different actors and scares along the way.
The fifth attraction was Zombieland: Unchained, which was also an entertaining attraction. The actors did a great job in their performance and the props seemed very realistic.
The VIP pass does not cover Zombie Paintball Assault, a visitor would have to pay separately. The wait varies for how long the line is because each group of twelve people takes about eight minutes to finish with their experience. I did pay to experience this attraction and it seems worthless to me because of the wait in the cold, but getting to shoot live actors with paintballs while riding on a bus was very fun for me.
It was overall a good experience for me, and I would rate it a 7/10, but one of the only things that made this worth it was the VIP pass that saved me from freezing in the cold all night long and waiting in the long lines in front of the attractions. I do not recommend going if being terrified all night is the goal.
