On October 3, Butler University hosted “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Live in Concert” at Clowes Memorial Hall. The whole show took two hours and twenty minutes. The time included a viewing of the movie in its entirety, and a twenty minute intermission at the halfway point. The movie was accompanied by a live orchestra, percussion and a scratch DJ. The orchestra that performed was called “The Broadway Sinfonietta.” They are a fully female orchestra, and are mostly made up of people of color. This was their first time performing in Indiana.
In the lobby, there was merchandise and concessions. The only merchandise they had was a $40 t-shirt and an $80 hoodie. Concessions included alcoholic drinks, candy, popcorn and soda.
According to Ticketmaster, the cheapest tickets were 35 dollars and the most expensive were 45 dollars. The 45 dollar tickets were in the orchestra section, so they were close to the stage. Almost every seat looked like a good seat to be in, but some had obstructed views.
Overall, the entire show was amazing. My favorite part of the show was when the percussionists were the only ones playing because of the tambourine and drums. I would recommend this show to Spiderman and Marvel fans that are trying to decide if they want to watch it or not. When the orchestra made a long pause, the audience would start cheering which made a whole different viewing approach.
This was my first time watching a live orchestra performance and it made me want to watch another one. If they had more theatrics like wearing spiderman costumes, it would have looked better. It enhanced the movie experience by making it sound more authentic since the live music that was performed. This made my experience better by having it feel like it was my first time watching the movie again. I am happy that I decided to go because it was truly extraordinary.
