On August 26, I was granted with the rare opportunity of seeing “Jurassic Park” in theaters, and in 3D, no less. It is no secret that I am an enormous fan of this series and have been for years now. I have seen the movies in the “Jurassic Park” franchise upwards of five times each and read both of the books about three times each now. I am more than a little dinosaur-crazy. In fact, I am one of the many people who have been inspired to go into paleontology by Steven Spielberg’s hit movie, and, by association, Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel.
According to paleontologist Benjamin Burger, “there is a whole generation of paleontologists today that have grown up with ‘Jurassic Park,’ having fallen in love with dinosaurs because this movie, including its sequels, video games, toys and television shows; at least some aspect of the franchise has taught them something about dinosaurs. […] To say it had an influence on the science of paleontology today is an understatement.”
So one can imagine how excited I was when I walked into Emagine Noblesville on that Saturday evening. I am happy to report that the experience did not disappoint.
While seeing a movie in 3D is a small difference, it definitely enhances the movie-going experience. Sometimes it did feel like the dinosaurs really popped out of the screen and into the theater. It even felt like I was in the movie at times, living the events.
Most people know the story of “Jurassic Park” – after an unfortunate accident resulting in a lawsuit, an eccentric billionaire invites experts in their fields to evaluate the safety of his theme park. Except, there is a twist. The park has real, living, breathing dinosaurs within its walls. After one employee’s espionage, though, things start to go wrong.
It was a pleasure to see this story play out on the big screen. Since this movie was released in 1993, I obviously was not alive to see it for the first time in theaters. I have always been envious of people who had the opportunity to. Getting to experience “Jurassic Park” as it came out was always something I wanted to do, and now I have been able to see it return to theaters in 3D.
Seeing my favorite movie in 3D was an exhilarating experience. The speakers were excellent and the popcorn was even better. I dined on Hershey’s Kisses and sour gummy worms while seated right beside my stepmom and my two best friends. To be honest, I do not think that I could have asked for a better way to see my favorite movie – or a better birthday present.
Each time I watch it, “Jurassic Park” is just as phenomenal as the last. If an individual has not seen this classic 90’s film before, I highly recommend that they watch it, especially if they enjoy science fiction thrillers or dinosaurs. It is an exhilarating and amazing movie all around. Of course, if a new fan has the chance to see it in 3D, too, that just makes it all the better. Even if one has seen Jurassic Park before, I highly recommend that they see it in 3D, as it heightens the experience of an already great movie.
