With the new school year starting up, many students have less time on their hands. While managing school, homework and a job, it can be hard for students to find time to spend outside.
During the average day, students spend most of their time inside a classroom, doing their homework or working at a business. While all of these are great things, students should be spending more time outside. When spending time outside, students can get vitamin D, which has been proven to help with memory, sleep and stress. When students do not have time to be outside they can sadly see a decrease in energy, a messed up sleep schedule and a short attention and retention span, as seen in this blog by the national wildlife federation .
Some students have found solutions to the lack of time spent outside.
Carter Harrington, a sophomore, said, ¨I play tennis most days so I get to be outside doing things that I like, and I usually sleep better after a tennis match.¨
While playing sports is one option for being outside there are other options.
Tony Crosby said,¨I like to sit on the couch outside when I’m doing my homework it feels so good to be outside.¨
Other activities such as biking, running or walking can also be done in free time.
Students should be spending more time outside, I have found that I usually have more focus, sleep better and have less stress after going for a bike ride in the evening,
