The September 11th terrorist attacks were a tremendous part of history in 2001, and are written into modern history books. The Twin Tower collapse is the most known, but there were other important events that led up to the Twin Towers collapsing that people should be aware of.
On September 11, 2001, terrorists from the Islamic extremist group “al Qaeda” hijacked four United States aircrafts and crashed two of them into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. There was also a third aircraft that crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A fourth aircraft crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, aiming for the White House. Nearly 3000 people were killed at the crash sites. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, this is considered the worst attack on American soil.
The 9/11 attacks were a substantial part of history. The damage caused fires to break out and debris filled the air, polluting the once clean air source and filling it with toxins. The toxins were the cause of more deaths than the attacks. The rate of some cancers among first responders is 30% higher than the general population. Due to the exposure, survivors and first responders developed cancer 20 years later.
Survivors have dealt with health issues from the exposure and polluted air. It also affected their mental health, such as trauma, due to the conditions they were under.
This event has affected many people and their families who had to deal with the loss of their relatives due to the attack.
2023 marks the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
