“Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse” (ASTV) is the sequel to “Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse” (ITSV). To me, ITSV was the best Spider-Man movie to date, but when ASTV came out, it gave the first movie a run for its money.
Spider-Man ASTV was released on June 2nd, 2023 in theaters. I saw it the day it came out. It was such a fun experience for me. Other fans just like me were cheering at cool moments and references within the film. It sort of reminded me of opening night for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” due to the excitement fans in the theater had.
The animation for this movie was absolutely spectacular. I would never have imagined that the animation could get any better than ITSV, but ATSV managed to exceed my expectations. A lot of other productions took inspiration from ITSV such as: “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “Entergalactic.” Yet, despite the many animated movies raising the bar in response to ISTV, SONY somehow found a way to top all of those animations in one movie.
The voice actors were also amazing. Returning actors, such as Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfield as Spider-Gwen and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, were amazing. I loved seeing them back. The new voice actors were also incredible. Karan Soni as Pavita Parker, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk and Oscar Issac as Miguel O’Hara were incredible as well.
The plot also surprised me. Due to the trailers being released giving no actual substance about the plot, most of the plot was a mystery going in, but it did not disappoint. Watching the movie and seeing it all unfold was so amazing. I truly cannot wait to see how this plays out.
This movie was mind-blowing, but fans cannot forget that this is part one. Even I cannot give a definitive rating until it is all said and done. Part two’s release date has not been confirmed as of yet, but it was heavily delayed due to writers and actors strike in Hollywood. Even so, I cannot wait to see it. I give this movie an eight out of ten, and I would watch it again.
