“The Hunger Games” Review
November 23, 2021
“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins, is a multi-award story about Katniss
Everdeen, a 16 year old girl living in the dystopian world, Panem, ruled by the dictator, President Snow. Every year, 24 teenagers are brought in to fight to the death in the Hunger Games. Katniss lives in the poorest area, district 12, with her sister, her mom, their cat Buttercup, and their goat Lady. The family barely survives in harsh living conditions, weather, and a shortage of food.
The book is very descriptive, making every detail count and adding many surprises that I
was not prepared for. The book also makes great use of the characters, making them change their perspectives at a moment’s notice, like when Peta went from wanting to kill Katins to saving her life. This suspenseful writing makes it hard to guess what will happen next.
I think this book is a great read for ages 10 and up and is a very entertaining read.
Joseph Buchanan, grade 9 said, “I could not put it down, it was such an amazing book.”
Some awards that this book has received are the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award,
Hal Clement Award, Cybils Award for Fantasy & Science Fiction – Young Adult and the California Young Reader Medal: Young Adult
“The Hunger Games” is a good read for ages ten and up and is a descriptive and insightful read from Suzanne Collins’ imagination.
