Oscars Recap
March 12, 2020
On February 9, 2020 Hollywood’s biggest stars all gathered for the 92nd Academy Awards, and it was a historical night.
Since there was not a host this year, singer Janelle Monae performed a song that celebrated all the movies that came out this year. She received a standing ovation.
Other awards were presented with Brad Pitt winning Best-Supporting Actor for his role in the film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and then Laura Dern won Best-Supporting Actress for “Marriage Story.”
The biggest surprise of the night was Bong Joon-Ho’s film “Parasite” winning four Academy Awards, beating the front runner “1917” for Original Screenplay. The film then went on to win Best International Feature, Best Director for Bong Joon-Ho, and the biggest award of the night Best Picture. This made it the first foreign film to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
Other winners from this night include: Best Adapted Screenplay for “Jojo Rabbit,” Best Animated Feature went to “Toy Story 4,” best Cinematography went to Roger Deakins for “1917,” and best actress and actor went to Renee Zellweger for “Judy” and Joaquin Phoenix for “Joker” respectively.
This was one of the most entertaining Oscars to watch, and it seemed to go more smoothly without a host this year.
MV student, Amaya Stewart 11 said, “ I liked that it didn’t have a host.”
