Student ID Cards
More stories from Taylor Jones
The new ID cards are no secret. All Mt. Vernon students are to wear them in a visible place all throughout the school day, and could potentially get a detention if they do not.
“The ID cards are kind of an inconvenience, but I understand that there are some safety reasons involved,” said Abby Brown, 11.
Mrs. Tharp explained the reasoning behind this new policy.
“They are a quick way to identify who should not be in the building,” she said. “This all started when we went over our safety plans for each building. If there is anyone in the building that didn’t go through any background checks, then it’s a concern.”
The IDs the students were given at the beginning of August are just placeholders for the ones to come.
Mrs. Tharp said, “It will take a few weeks after pictures are taken for the IDs to get made.”
In addition to the cards being used to check out at lunch and the library, in the future the cards could potentially be used as sports passes.
The MVHS staff wants to make the cards user friendly, and would like to hear from students who have ideas for future uses. If any student wishes to share these ideas, they can contact the administration by emailing them. [email protected] , [email protected] , or [email protected] .
