Procrastination is an amazing experience that I must share. I make excuses and put off important projects or homework assignments until the last second. Some of these assignments are never completed, like several of my assignments for AP Language and AP Government.

We all procrastinate, but you may not know what it means. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the official definition of procrastination is “the action of delaying or postponing something.”

However, there is more to procrastination than just delaying. Not only do you receive stress and anxiety, but you get to experience being under pressure and may experience a sudden burst of creativity while working on the assignment minutes before it’s due.

“I’m taking two credit-recovery classes to get academic honors,” said Charles Livengood, 11. “There’re seventeen days left of the quarter, but I’ve only started one assignment.”

Here are some tips to help you procrastinate.

  1. Go on social media. There’s a lot more interesting videos and pictures. Compare that to doing homework.
  2. Watch one video on YouTube or Netflix or any other video-sharing website. It’s okay to tell yourself to watch just one more episode.
  3. Lie in bed and go to sleep. Mental health is a lot more important than many people think. Also, if you don’t get sleep now, when else are you going to get it? Definitely not when you get a full-time job.
  4. Paint your nails. You can experiment with self-expression any time, and this is not limited to giving yourself a manicure. You can draw, write, or any other activity that shows who you are.
  5. Hang out with friends who are also willing to take time off their homework. Enjoy life when you’re young because you’ll be an adult in no time.
  6. Have a self-reflection time that lasts at least half an hour. Just think about how you’ve led your life so far and where you want it to go.

These tips helped me procrastinate in a beneficial manner, so I hope that you will find these tips helpful as well.
