“On the Basis of Sex”: Notorious RBG
More stories from Joan Lee
On Christmas day, “On the Basis of Sex” was released. The movie is a 2018 American biographical legal drama.
“On the Basis of Sex” is about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, one of the current Supreme Court justices. The film stars Felicity Jones as the protagonist Ruth, and Armie Hammer as Ruth’s husband.
Ruth is struggling as an attorney and a mother. During her fight for civil rights, Ruth faces obstacles against her cause and her role. One day, she takes on a tax case with her husband, attorney Martin Ginsburg. This groundbreaking case changes both her career and the way the law sees gender discrimination.
“I want to watch the movie because I am interested in equal rights and representation in the workplace,” said Lexi Price, 12, “and I feel like it will affect my generation of women and the generations that are to come.”
The characters are pictured as very realistic and are very memorable. I did not doubt once that any of the main characters would be forgettable. The settings that the characters are put into are also very realistic, showing all the sexism and self-doubt that could happen in anyone’s mind.
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg also makes a surprise cameo in the film, which I enjoyed very much. The director matched her entrance very well with the rest of the film.
“On the Basis of Sex” is a must-watch for people who like inspiring and emotional films. Ruth proves to the audience exactly what happens if you do not give up and keep fighting for what you believe in.
