On December 16, 2018, Colin Kroll, the co-founder of both Vine and HQ Trivia, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment. He was 34 years old.
“We learned today of the passing of our friend and founder, Colin Kroll, and it’s with deep sadness that we say goodbye,” said an HQ representative on Twitter. “Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredible difficult time.”
According to a law enforcement source, Kroll’s girlfriend called the New York Police Department for a wellness check on him.
New York authorities suspect that Kroll died of an overdose. When he was discovered by police, a white substance in an envelope was found next to Kroll.
“That is really sad,” said Maia Dufek, 12. “I hope they make a Vine 2.”
Kroll co-founded Vine, a now-defunct looping video platform. Later, Kroll co-founded HQ Trivia, a breakout game where users play trivia in real time.
