Permanent sub classrooms
November 12, 2018
Students often get excited when they hear teachers talking about their upcoming absences because they know they’ll have a sub. It means it may be an easier day. This year, however, if teachers are absent, multiple classes get put into either the auditorium or the gym.
As a result, students aren’t learning much and are doing little to no work. If students need help, there is no teacher to help them. Everyone starts talking, and those people who are not talking get annoyed because it’s hard for one teacher to quiet 80 students.
People cannot study as well with people talking. In the classroom, substitutes usually have notes from the teacher and they go over everything with students to help them understand their teacher’s directions. The substitute usually in the class has notes from the teacher and goes over everything with students and helps them understand. If students are all just stuck together in a big room without personalized help, they can’t get help studying and often get behind.
“It’s not as good as my regular class, but I try to make it work,” said Lucie Lottes, 10.
The auditorium is not the best place to go when we have a sub but, it’s better than nothing.
