All-State Honor Choir 2019
More stories from Joan Lee
Indiana All-State Honor Choir is an opportunity for high school students who wish to further improve their musicianship and performance skills. It also allows for students to sing with students from other schools.
In September, five Mt. Vernon students auditioned to become members of All-State. These students practiced the audition song and sightreading, which is singing music without previous preparation. Four students made it in: Joan Lee, 12, Kyran Maxfield, 9, Cadence Roy, 10, and Amanda Schuck, 9.
“I’m ecstatic,” said Cadence Roy, 10. “So far, it has been wonderful. The people are extremely nice and everyone is so talented. It is nice to be able to get so many things done at our first rehearsal.”
In January, these students, along with 246 students from other high schools in the state, will be directed by nationally known conductor Tesfa Wondemagegnehu. After two days of rehearsal all together, they will perform at the Embassy Theatre in Ft. Wayne.
