Race for the cure

On April 28, 2018, people from all over Indy came downtown to raise awareness and money to help fight breast cancer. Susan G. Komen Foundation’s goal is to raise enough money to cure the disease. For almost 30 years this race has been working towards its goal.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation has made many giant steps toward curing this disease. On Saturday, a guest speaker at the event mentioned that “by 2026 they will have reduced breast cancer in America by half.” This shows how important these races are in helping raise money for breast cancer research.

The foundation sponsors almost 140 races across the globe, and Indiana is just one of many races that matter to the cause.

It is nearly impossible to not know someone who has been touched by cancer in some way. With fundraisers such as Race for the Cure, people can help leave their impact. I think it’s important to help any way that you are able to.

Mt.Vernon junior Haleigh Kinsey was one of thousands in attendance and said, “I really loved seeing all those people come to support the cause. It was so fun, and I loved all the pink balloons everywhere.¨

Thousands of people came out to support and walk either the 1k family walk or 5k walk/run race. There was music and Zumba going on beforehand and there was even dancing as some were walking.

The sun was out and everyone was smiling. Overall, It was perfect day to help save lives.
