Teacher saves student

Mrs. Amy Hoeppner, a third grade teacher at Fortville Elementary, recently saved a choking student on April 25.
While taking her students back from the lunchroom, she noticed a student, Abram Witten, making noises and grabbing at his throat.
He could not tell her what was going on because he could not speak at all. She then used the Heimlich maneuver on him, and he turned out to be choking on a piece of celery.
Mrs. Hoeppner said, “The Heimlich maneuver was a natural reaction because of training.”
He went back to class after calling his mom to inform her of what is wrong.
This incident has made many parents and students alike wonder if they should be teaching the Heimlich maneuver in class.
Mrs. Hoeppner said, “It seems to me that everyone, including students, should know this procedure. You never know when you might need it.”

I’m so glad our teachers know how to handle situations like these. Honestly, they should teach students how to do this as well.
