Misc is an American rapper who got his start in 2024 when he released his debut single, “The Lightning Thief.” Since then, Misc has gone on to release a series of other hits until taking a break in the Fall of 2024. He released his latest album in January.
“Channel: VIA MEDIA” is a 12 song album released on January 31. Before the album, Misc was known for his old school style of rap and his punctual lyricism. He sampled a lot of things from pop culture and built a considerate underground following with his small, yet memorable discography.
The first track off the record is “Pride & Ego.” This song is an okay addition to his discography. It did not leave much of an impression on me, but it definitely did not take away from the album. I enjoyed the production.
Songs two and three are “Sola Fide” and “Highlights.” I am lumping these two songs together because they blend into each other and do not really stand out much to me. They almost feel like filler to the album. These two songs show how Misc has upped the production value in his music. His mic quality is so much better and his beats are much more complex.
The first song to really stand out to me is “Hollow Holocrons.” I really like this song. It has a really good beat and the “Star Wars” reference is the best. I enjoy how nerdy he gets in his bars. It is very reminiscent of “MF DOOM.”
“Dear Elena” feels like another filler song right before his first single off of the album. I would say “Dear Elena” is more of a hype building song used to build up “VIA MEDIA.”
“VIA MEDIA” was released as a single last year and is one of Misc’s most upbeat and vibrant songs. I would say that “VIA MEDIA” is the album’s climax as it is one of his most popular songs.
“Forsaken” is the next song on the album and it is another one that is kind of a slower song with a lower production value and a simpler beat. There is not much to say about this one.
“Sea of Monsters” is next and it is another high point in the album. It was nice to see him making almost a sequel to his hit classic, “Lightning Thief.” Him continuing The “Percy Jackson” references is nice to see.
The next song is one of the more forgettable ones. “Moment of Truth Part 1” just slid under the cracks for me. It did not really stick out and I do not remember much of it. It is definitely a skip off of the album for me.
The last three songs of the album are my favorite by far. “Star Cannon,” “Heaven’s Gate” and “Saint Hermes” are so good. “Star Cannon” is just one big Terraria reference and is a banger. It is fast paced and is just a solid listen all around.
“Heaven’s Gate” is the other single off of the album. It is really good. It has been out since last year and has stayed at the top of his discography ever since its release.
“Saint Hermes” is the last song on the album. It ends the album on a good note as it concludes Misc’s first drop of the year.
I hope he continues to make music and has a great career in the future. So far, Misc has had a pretty good run and plans on breaking into the mainstream with his new music.
