Since the early 2000s, the mood of the car community has shifted dramatically. Starting out as a love of people building cars, it has changed because of definitions of what a build means and the introduction of Tik Tok kids.
In the early 2000s, car enthusiasts could design and do whatever they wanted and be accepted. The “Big Wang Gang,” Bosozoku and CCM all were attempts to break free of “regular traffic” and to pursue the builders’ passions. These groups would do designs on cars that are not mainstream or do mods that are out of the ordinary, such as overly large wings, excessive camber, large tip exhausts or slammed cars.
However in the past couple of years, people have become toxic and vocal in their hate for these things, believing that a car has to fit certain standards such as model, color, year, and intended use. This has resulted in hate comments or general dislike at car meets, social media, or in socal settings.
TikTok kids are another prevailing issue in the car community. These kids believe that the only good cars are mainstream models such as the GT3-RS, GTR, Mk4 Supra, Veyron, Scat, Chiron and Z model Corvettes. They refuse to believe that other cars can be accepted into the car community because it is not mainstream, or does not fit some standard pushed by car purists, causing many people to hate on cars that don’t fit those standards.
