Ubisoft released the sixth installment of the “Far Cry” series in October of 2021. The game takes place on the dystopian island of Yara, led by authoritarian dictator Anton Castillo, voiced by Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito.
Castillo promises “paradise” because of his scientists’ miracle cancer treatment: Viviro. However, the way he produces this drug is by enacting a slave-labor draft, and those who refuse are ruthlessly killed. The player is given the role of Dani, a revolutionary who is thrust into “Libertad,” which is a group led by Clara Garcia against Castillo’s regime.
This is my first Far Cry game, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, I really enjoyed watching this story unfold. Witnessing the tyrannical government get uprooted was so satisfying after witnessing the atrocities they committed against the population.
There are four main storylines in this game. Most of them were uneventful, but the one that really stood out to me was the “Maximas Matanzas” storyline. They are a rap group who are captured by the government for speaking out against them. Their main antagonist is “Maria Marquessa” who is the propaganda director of the regime. Her life has an abrupt end after one of the members of Maximas Matanzas guns her down on a news broadcast.
Moving on to the gameplay, I really enjoy how it flows. The weapon mechanics are some of the best I have ever played. The entire weapon system is based on attachments and the attachments are not on a tier system where there is an objectively most powerful setup. Instead, the player should change their loadout for each mission, which is just a super fun way to force the player to switch things up.
The map is the main reason I enjoyed this game so much. The island is very large and has a ton of different biomes, which play a key role in the storyline. There is a section of the island dedicated to farming tobacco, the backbone of Viviro, which the player takes flamethrowers to and drops napalm from a plane on. In another mission, the player needs to traverse the terrain of the swampy coast to explode the containers of PG-240, another key aspect of growing Viviro, before boarding a ship to kill John McKay, an investor in Viviro.
Overall, this game was the most fun thing I have played in quite a while and revived my love for video games. I never got bored of it. Those who like the “Call of Duty” campaigns and “Counter Strike” will love this game. I recommend it to anyone who likes games with a story, as I was emotionally invested in the story.

I am afraid that I disagree with my whole heart. As of recent, the Far Cry games that Ubisoft has come out with have been lacking, especially Far Cry. I recommend you play their earlier games back when they were good.
