On December 21st, Toyota Automotive Group released the concept model for what they called the final edition of the MK5 A90 Final edition Supra. It has more features and a return to its classic design, while only being produced for Japan and Europe. This car led the automotive tuning groups of America, Japan and Europe for two decades from the popularity it gained from the “Fast and the Furious” movie, as well as the respect it gained among communities for its high reliability and tuning capabilities
During the press release, they stated that they would be continuing the production of the base model, the GR A9 edition, which would contain some of Toyota’s highest quality features, such a KW Suspension system with larger tyres for more grip on the track, Recaro GR carbon fiber bucket seats, an all-inclusive sound system.
Most importantly is the engine – the latest MK5 Supras Toyota used the BMW B48 Turbo engine for its high reliability and power. Yet now the Supra has gone to the newer b58 3 liter straight 6 turbocharged engine with a Akrapovič titanium exhaust, which produces 70Nm more torque than the base model while also using the design from the Celica Supra from 1978 with the straight 6 RWD front engine.
While the model is still in production, only 300 units of the track-based model FN will be released for sale and will later be discontinued to bring in an EV unit instead.
