Last year I researched and wrote about three indie bands that had recently dropped music in 2023. That article was a whole year ago and I thought it would be a stellar idea to revisit these bands because all of them have matured with time and have released some straight bangers since then.
Modern grunge band, Sap, have been making waves with their new single “Bleed In The Sun.” The single featured two songs, “Ginger Minge” and “Bleed In The Sun.” The single reached decent success, with it most commonly being compared to some of Nirvana’s music, especially their classic, “Come As You Are,” which shared a lot of similarities to “Bleed In The Sun.” Sap now stands at 16.8k monthly listeners – more than double the listeners they had last year.
Next up we have the largest group out of the three, Rehash. Rehash had just released their self-titled album and they had a following of 17k on Spotify in 2023. Since 2023, Rehash released a new album titled, “Mourning Star.” The album skyrocketed them into niche popularity, gaining them more than 250k monthly listeners. The album had multiple hits, including “Back To Strangers,” which climbed its way to the top of their charts sitting at a comfortable 1,485,562 streams on Spotify.
Coming from only 12 followers in 2023, A Letter For Ashley gained a staggering amount of listeners with their single, “There Is Beauty In Everything.” With help from the collaboration with fellow indie artists, Somewhere Slowly and Theo Salewicz, the group quickly gained 2k monthly listeners and held it until recently, when their listeners calmed down to a solid 285. Later, in 2024, they released, “From My Eyes,” another single. A Letter For Ashley released the album to success, securing their 200-plus monthly listeners.
To be able to see all of these bands grow and mature over a year is really cool. All three of these bands deserve at least one listen, so go on out and listen to some tunes.
