Richard Allen, 52, was sentenced on two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder for the murders of 14-year-old Libby German and 13-year-old Abby Williams. The two girls were found with their throats cut and left near a trail in Delphi, Indiana.
The Associate Press reported that Allen is facing a possible sentence of 130 years. Carroll County Prosecutor, Nick McLeland, presented photos that Libby and Abby took the day of their murder showing a man he claimed to be Allen. He also played a video to the jury of Allen confessing, “I did it. I killed Abby and Libby,” to his wife over the phone while he was in jail.
Brad Rozzi, Allen’s defense attorney, attempted to discredit McLeland by claiming that his evidence was based on “broken timelines, false confessions and a lack of DNA or weapons evidence should lead to acquittal,” according to CNN.
There were also accusations by Allen’s lawyer that the girls were instead killed in a ritualistic sacrifice by the white nationalistic group, the Odinists. This was dismissed by the judge due to the lack of evidence to support the claim.
Allen’s final sentencing is set for December 20th.
