Mt. Vernon’s production of “The Addams Family” musical is now officially over, with its cast and tech crew having gone all out during every single performance. It was my first year in the tech crew as a senior.
I joined the tech crew because it just felt right for me. I imagined being a part of Mt. Vernon’s tech crew for some time now and it now seems I was right for the job.
The first thing about tech is that I love the variety of jobs I could have. There is the spotlight job that makes the cast look great, the soundboard that controls the way the show sounds, and even the deckhands that make seamless transitions from scene to scene. All our jobs mattered in the end and helped to put on an amazing show.
The people in tech are also so amazing. It was a good feeling to be around such a great group of people who were passionate about the show and their role in the endgame. Everyone was stressing out, sure, but in the end, we all got together and locked in. Our senior leaders like Hailey Tilland, Emilee Mitchell, Jack Schaafsma, and Collin Murphy were so amazing at guiding the underclassmen and newcomers such as myself to feel welcomed into the family that is the MV Tech Crew. They essentially have built a foundation for newcomers to continue in tech when we are long gone.
I love tech so much, and I regret not joining sooner. I believe this is what I want to do in college and maybe in the future. I would love to be a part of something like I was a part of this. Anyone who is alone or just needs something to be passionate about should join the MV Theatre department.
