True crime is a topic that many people love. Jeffery Dahmer has even had many films made about him, from “Raising Jeffery Dahmer” to the popular Netflix show, “Monster.”People are fascinated by murderers as their morals are not like an average person’s.
According to a paper by Regis University, there are three different definitions of a killer. Each one is differentiated by a motive and method of killing: mass killers, spree killers, and serial killers. A spree and mass killers both have the same definition. “An individual who kills two or more people with no cool-down period.” However, the definition of a serial killer is more of a challenge.
When the FBI was founded, a serial killer was defined as someone “who murders many people in different locations.” But now, the FBI has agreed that the definition of a serial killer “is one who kills two or more victims with a psychological motive.”
While there are three different definitions of murder, there are two different kinds of serial killers: the organized and the disorganized. Organized killers are often intelligent and methodical. They can blend into society more easily and are often married with kids. Organized serial killers pay attention to the media, follow the news, and are often harder to catch.
Then there are the disorganized, who tend to overkill. They are seen as outcasts and are most likely to be caught. The difference between the two can also be the motives behind the murder’s kills. A disorganized killer’s motive is often something they lack. It might be an emotion. Control is a common emotion that a disorganized killer wants. However, an organized killer often wants to abduct their victims. They are killers who want a thrill.
There is so much that goes on behind a killer’s mind, from their early life to their adulthood. Their early life might not even have a play in their motive. It might be because they suffer from a mental disorder. The media shows murders as people who are sick-minded and very smart. But behind the character are different types of killers – some who have never been caught while others were found out a long time ago.
