The remains of a Vietnam War pilot, Ronald W. Forrester of Odessa, Texas, were identified nearly fifty years after his disappearance.
Forrester was twenty-five when he was sent on a nighttime pilot mission, piloting an A-6A Intruder in northern Vietnam. During this mission, he suddenly ceased contact and disappeared according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency.
“After entering the target area, Forrester’s aircraft ceased radio communications and never returned to base. Search and rescue teams could not locate any trace of the aircraft or the crew in the Le Thuy District, Quang Binh Province. In September 1978, the Marine Corps changed Capt. Forrester’s initial Missing In Action status to Killed in Action,” they explained in their statement.
Forrester is set to be buried on October 7, 2024, in Arlington National Cemetery.
