On Thursday, June 27, the 2024 United States Presidential debates happened with former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris. The debate took place in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center.
Trump gave reasons for why Kamala Harris should not be the next President. Trump got angry and declared that Harris had no politics of her own and that she was the worst Vice President in history.
On ABC News, Trump stated that in Springfield, Ohio immigrants were eating cats and dogs and that people should stay away from that city. Some people did believe this and got scared, but most people who saw this did not believe any of it. The claim had spread on social media, with Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance promoting it on X.
The post has had more than 11 million views.
During the presidential debate that Tuesday, Trump also claimed to have seen “people on television saying that their dog was taken and used for food.” All of the broadcasters like CNN, ABC, BBC news verified this information, and have not identified any truth to this calm.
During a Sunday interview on CNN, the Ohio senator and Republican vice presidential nominee said his evidence for this claim was “the first-hand accounts of my constituents.” He then went on to defend the dissemination of this false story.
“The American media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I started talking about cat memes,” Sen. Vance said. “If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
A lot of people shared Trump’s quote about Springfield, Ohio on social media or made their cats and dogs react to his quote. While this was not the only controversial statement made by Trump, it was one that got a lot of attention and resulted in the creation of lots of memes.
