The Mt. Vernon Boys Varsity soccer team, coached by Coach Mayhew, has had a great year so far, coming farther than they have in previous years.
With all their hard work, the Varsity team this year has managed to win five games and tie one out of their eight total games. The team has been training a lot, with Coach Mayhew pushing the boys.
When watching their games Keeper William Keppler (12) said,”after watching the team this year they have come farther than any other year we have been pushed harder and that has produced this success.”
It is easy to see this training has paid off. In previous years they have been ranked 58th, 51st, and 49th, but this year
their state standings have moved up to 42nd.
This season they have scored a total of eighteen goals and striker Charlie Cole (11) scored nine of them. Keppler (12), showed intense discipline, helping the team and directing some of the players on where to go.
Coach Mayhew feels proud about his team this year. He said, ” I am super proud of these boys and how far they have come. I remember watching many of them when they were freshmen, and their achievements over these past years have been incredible.”
Overall, Mt. Vernon Boys’ Varsity team has had an excellent year so far with great achievements and a well put together team.
