I am in my junior year of high school and have found my workload increasing due to taking harder and more challenging classes. Additionally, I have recently started a job and often get home between 10 and 11 o’clock at night. Before this job, I was an adamant believer in doing my homework in the evening, but with how late I was getting home compared to how tired I felt, I thought my work quality might suffer. The option of doing morning homework was always there and seemed like my best bet to deal with this increasing workload. After a week of doing this, though, I am not so sure.
Doing one’s homework in the morning has some advantages, such as allowing them to go to sleep when they get home and negating the drop in quality they may suffer if they continue to do homework in the evening when they are overtired and exhausted. These advantages make doing homework in the morning the obvious choice for my situation, but there are a few main disadvantages that have caused me to turn against it.
The major disadvantage is that one has to wake up an hour or two earlier to give time to complete all their homework. Secondly, they have to make estimates because, with evening homework, they just get to go to bed once they are done. With morning homework, however, one must estimate the time required to complete the homework, and if they miscalculate, they end up not being able to complete the homework and getting an F.
I am not a morning person and love to sleep in, so doing homework in the morning has caused me to be extremely tired during my first and second blocks. This idea can work for someone who loves to get up early, but it has made me feel more tired and stressed due to the time constraints than ever before.
