“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is a book written by Stephen Chbosky that hits close to home for many teenagers. The book is written in the form of letters sent to the reader by a boy named Charlie who is starting his freshman year in high school.
Charlie is a very realistic character which makes him so likable to me. He is a shy, awkward young boy who does not always say or do the right thing.
My favorite part of this book is its realism. The book deals with real-life issues that teens go through while finding themselves in high school such as love, friendship, and mental health. Charlie finds a group of friends who bring him out of his shell and help him experience life as a teenager. The book is goofy, honest, and relatable.
Overall, I believe that “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is a book that every young high schooler should read. This book helped me to see that I was not an outsider and that there are lots of other young adults feeling and going through the same things as me.
This book is easy to read, but at the same time, it has a lot of noncommunicable feelings that it easily expresses and puts into words. If students are looking for a book that is going to make them think and will stick with them, I recommend this one.
