Spotify has been around for 16 years and the question as to whether it is worth it or not still stands. I have asked Mt. Vernon Students around the school what they think about Spotify Premium, and if it is worth it or not compared to other platforms.
There are many subscription options for Spotify Premium. The plans are as follows: individual plan, duo plan, family plan, and the student plan. I have an individual plan, as I only need Spotify for myself.
The perks of having Spotify Premium are that it makes Spotify ad free, provides high quality audio, allows one to download music, and enables a user to listen offline.
Spotify Premium is just normal Spotify with only a small amount of perks compared to the free version. However, as someone who dislikes ads on any streaming service or platform, I think it is worth it. Downloading music can be useful; when there is no wifi or no service in the area, users can still jam out to their favorite tunes.
A complaint I do have about Spotify Premium is the price. Though its perks are awesome for such a well-put-together music streaming service, there are only a few. The individual plan is $11.99 a month. By the end of the year, an individual plan will cost users $144.
I have asked a few students of Mt. Vernon High School, “Do you think Spotify Premium is worth it?” This is what some of them said.
“No, buy Apple Music. [Spotify Premium] is more expensive than Apple Music,” said senior Bryce Collinsworth.
“No, because the only thing Premium has are skipping songs and ads. I do not think it is worth it,” said freshman Karla Luna.
“I’ve always had it, it always works,” said junior Brooks McKeeman.
“Spotify Premium is better. You can pick your music and skip as many times as you want,” said senior Ava Roland.
At the end of the day, it depends on what users look for regarding how they want to listen to their music. I think that Spotify is great for listening and finding music, but I can do both of those for free without paying $11.99.
