This review contains major spoilers for people who have not watched “Helluva Boss” yet. The review will consist of a summary of the episode and my opinions on each episode.
“Helluva Boss” is a cartoon meant for adults that is available to watch on YouTube. It mainly focuses on the experiences and life of a demon named Blitzø, who resides in hell, where he owns a company named IMP. Two seasons are out so far. Only season one is complete, having eight episodes and season two currently has seven out of twelve episodes. “Helluva Boss” is a sister show to “Hazbin Hotel,” taking place in the same universe but focusing on different aspects and characters.
Season one, episode one is an amazing episode. Being the first episode in the series, it introduces the viewer to the main cast of “Helluva Boss,” Blitzø, Moxxie, Millie, Loona and Stolas. The episode does a great job introducing the characters, although Stolas is introduced over a phone call which is made between him and Blitzø.
Episode two focuses on Stolas’ life, his relationship with his ex-wife, Stella, and his daughter, Octavia. The main cast also goes to an amusement park called LooLoo Land in this episode, which is fun to watch.
Episode three introduces the viewer to Verosika Mayday, who is Blitzø’s ex-girlfriend. She is a famous pop star both in hell and the living world. This episode is entertaining to watch, Verosika being one of my favorite characters from the show.
Episode four is a pretty boring episode, in my opinion. The only entertaining part of it is seeing Deerie, a cherub, denying entry to heaven to the other cherubs, Kennie, Cletus and Collin, after they killed an old man they were trying to save while fighting Blitzø, Moxxie and Millie. This episode managed to set up a rivalry against the Cherubs and Blitzø, Moxxie and Millie
Episode five is one of my favorite episodes. It focuses on the Harvest Moon Festival in the Wrath Ring, which Stolas, as royalty, has to initiate. Episode five gives an introduction to Millie’s family and Striker. Striker is an antagonist in this episode.
Episode six had amazing animation and songs. Blitzø and Moxxie both get captured by humans, and have truth gas used on them. That is the highlight of the episode to me since it is not expected. It showed how Moxxie feels about the way Blitzo treats him, and how Blitzø has fears about his past.
Episode seven is also an amazing episode. Stolas and Blitzø went to Ozzie’s, which is a restaurant in the Lust Ring run by Asmodeus. I loved the outfits that they were wearing in this episode. Along with the outfit, this episode focused on how Stolas’ love for Blitzø is mostly one-sided.
Episode eight introduces us to Beelzebub, the incarnation of gluttony, as she hosts a hellhound party Loona is invited to. I loved this episode and Beelzebub became one of my favorite characters after the episode.
Overall, season one is amazing, and is a great introduction to the large cast of characters that make up “Helluva Boss.” Everything is perfect about this season, although I wish that the episodes were a bit longer.
Season two, episode one is my favorite episode out of the whole show. I love how it shows Stolas’ backstory on how he got his role in Ars Goetia and how he met and fell in love with Blitzø.
Episode two is definitely in my top five favorite episodes. I love the depiction of Los Angeles and how Blitzø got mistaken for a celebrity.
Episode three is also in my top five, being introduced to Chaz, and Moxxie’s father Crimson. Chaz is the perfect comedy relief in the episode, and I am upset after finding out he got killed in the same episode.
Episode four is good as well; I like how Stella paid Striker to kidnap Stolas and to kill him, but she calls the hit off before Striker can since she realized she can not inherit Stolas’ rank or fortune due to him already having an heir, Octavia.
Episode five is the camp episode. I am really not a fan of it, although I liked seeing Barbie Wire, who is Blitzø’s sister.
Episode six is also a fun episode. It showed Blitzø and Fizzarolli, childhood friends who grew apart after a fire, bonding together again. “Look at This” is also an amazing song.
Episode seven is an extremely entertaining episode. I liked all of the songs in the episode, and the way it focused mostly on the clown competition Mammon is running in the Greed Ring tied everything together.
I am very excited to see the rest of season two play out. The trailer for the next five episodes, which is released on April 27, 2024, shows the months the episodes will be coming out in.
