On May 4th, Mt. Vernon hosted the 2024 prom for the school. The prom was held in the Egyptian Room, at the Old National Centre. Over 600 people attended to dance, drink, eat, and have fun.
The theme that the prom committee decided upon was “Red Carpet Affair.” It featured a walkway and luxurious pieces of furniture, as well as a variety of foods.
That event night lasted from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. There was a photo booth with different props to enhance the photos to choose from. The event also had a spinning camera. Attendees could stand on a platform and the camera would spin around and take a video. These were free to all attendees.
Songs that were played at prom included “ Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars, “Cupid Shuffle” by Cupid, “Just Wanna Rock” by Lil Uzi Vert, “Whip and Nae Nae” by Silento, and “Wobble Baby” by V.I.C. Many more songs played throughout the night, with most being a mix of rap and party songs.
At the Prom’s entrance, students could vote for Prom King and Queen. There were many contestants, but the crowns ultimately went to Andres Langston and Destiny Lauderdale.
One senior at MVHS, Daniel Barnes, commented that “this prom was definitely better than the last one.”
The Prom Committee worked hard on this year’s prom, and produced another smashing success. Mt. Vernon High School has continued the tradition of having students enjoy a night of partying to remember.
