Minecraft’s new update, update 1.21, is coming midway through this year. The title for this new update is the Tricky Trials, and its features include new weapons, blocks, items, and the Trial Chambers. Let’s say this year will be very ‘“ominous.”’
The Trial Chambers have been described as a large underground labyrinth full of challenging mobs and rare items. To access the chambers, a player must get the Bad Omen effect. Entering the chambers with this effect will give players the new Ominous Event effect. Note the Bad Omen cannot be accessed after immediately killing a Raid Leader pillager, and that a player must drink the Ominous Bottle instead.
The Ominous Bottle is the new way to get the Bad Omen effect. Once consumed, it will give the player one hour and 40 minutes of this effect. The bottle can be found by killing a Raid Leader and will drop for the player to pick up. Raid Leaders are pillagers with banners on their backs. One fact about the bottle is that, like many items, it can be carried in a stack of 64. Also once consumed, the bottle will break in the player’s hand. The Ominous Bottle will also be able to be found in vaults, though it is a bit uncommon.
The Vaults can be found throughout the Trial Chambers, giving rare loot. To open vaults, a player must have a trial key, found in Trial Spawners. Other variants are in harder places to find, so look carefully. The two variants can be recognized by the vaults having different textures and a difference of either normal or soul fire. Some loot includes ores, tools, enchanted armor, enchantment books and the heavy core, which is a rare item.
The Trial Spawners also are a part of the Chambers. They are a type of mob spawner that can only be found in the Trial Chambers, and they spawn mobs in waves. The more players are around it, the more advanced the spawning will be. The spawner will spawn out its maximum amount of mobs before loot will be spewed out, and then it will cool down. Once it cools down, a player cannot have mobs come out of it again. Loot includes potions, ender pearls, a trial key and some types of food.
Mobs that can be summoned from it come in categories. The melee category summons zombies, husks and slimes. The small melee category includes spiders, cave spiders, baby zombies and silverfish. Lastly, the ranged category includes skeletons, stories and skeletons with poison-tipped arrows. All mobs summoned are randomized and the categories are combined. For example, there might be strays, husks and spiders all in the same room.
The only exception is the Breeze. The Breeze is the newest mob and will have its own spawner. It will hop around the player, shooting winds in the form of wind charges. Although the charges will do little damage, it will kick an entity back several blocks. When killed, it will drop a breeze rod which can be used to make a wind charge and the mace. Wind charges are a way for a player to jump high. It can also be used to activate redstone items. The mace is the newest weapon, needing a breeze rod and a heavy core, but its power matches the rarity of the ingredients. When a player jumps on top of a mob and hits it, it gives a large amount of damage to the mob hit. If used correctly, it can kill the ender dragon in one hit. If the player hits a mob, the impact will keep the player from taking damage.
Personally, this seems like a cool update. The mace seems very overpowered in my opinion, but I guess it is just not for me. I like seeing Minecraft try and make new small things, but even in this large update, it is not doing much to the game. It is changing the underground, yes, but that is what Minecraft has been doing for the past few years. I would like to see something that will change the whole game, like the Ocean update, which introduced swimming or like the Nether update, which completely changed the Nether’s textures and many of the mobs. Although I do not love some features of the update, I do believe it will be a great update, and am excited to see what Minecraft has in store for next year.
