Glass Animals is a band perhaps most well known for their song “Heat Waves,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs in 2022. Another iconic album they may be known for, “How to be a Human Being,” is an in-depth look at how different people lead very different lives. Genre-wise, the group is often described as “psychedelic pop” or “indie rock.”
The band was formed in Oxford in 2010 and consists of lead singer, producer, and songwriter Dave Bayley, drummer Joe Seaward, guitarist Drew MacFarlane, and bassist and keyboardist Edmund Irwin-Singer. The U.S. Sun states that “the band members chose the name Glass Animals from random words in the dictionary.”
Their discography spans nearly a decade, having released their albums “Zaba” in 2014, “How to be a Human Being” in 2016, and “Dreamland” in 2019.
Their fourth studio album, “I Love You So F***ing Much,” is set to release on July 19, 2024.
On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the band put out a lead single from the new album, “Creatures in Heaven.” The band also revealed via their Instagram that all the songs on the album are to be written around the central theme of love.
According to one article, the idea for the new album to be based upon the concept of love came after the band’s frontman, Dave Bayley, “found himself in an Airbnb house high on stilts below Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles alone, sick with fever and wondering about Glass Animals’ place in the universe.” When a powerful storm came thereafter, flooding roads, people were able to emerge with their loved ones and share a tight embrace.
With the new album comes a new tour titled “Tour of Earth.” The group will stop across North America, Europe, and the UK. According to their website, Glass Animals will be coming to Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville on August 23, 2024. They will be joined by Kevin Abstract, Eyedress, Blondshell and the Big Moon on different dates.
Lead singer Dave Bayley commented on the album’s title, “I Love You So F***ing Much”, stating, “These words take on a different meaning every time you say them. The universe may make us feel overwhelmingly small, but we have this human connection that is far vaster and more mysterious. Love comes in an infinite number of forms and shapes and sizes. It is so complex, and so powerful that even witnessing the tiniest instance of it can change your life forever.”
