Through the week of April 1st to April 5th, Mt. Vernon hosted a culture fair during SRT celebrating the diversity found around the world.
Students were given passports that were stamped throughout the week and later drawn for a chance to win a prize.
The host clubs were the Spanish club, Black Student Union, Asian Student Union (ASU), French club and ASL (American Sign Language) club.
The Spanish club kicked off the week. The students played bingo or la loteria, made paper Cempasúchil flowers and played pin the tail on the donkey.
Tuesday, students were invited to an art show featuring local black artists and educating people on black women in STEM sponsored by BSU.
On Wednesday, ASU put on a dance party as students participated in a group game of Just Dance to various Asian music.
The French club hosted Thursday’s SRT. Students made bracelets with the colors of the French flag and spelled Je t’aime, which is “I love you” in French.
Friday, the final day of the culture fest, was led by the ASL club. Students made bookmarks decorated with paper ASL letters, and spelled words of their choice.
This was the first culture fair that Mt. Vernon High School had hosted.
