On March 26, 2024, the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed. This collapse was due to a cargo ship, named the “Dali,” that lost power due to electrical issues. “Dali” was a cargo ship that was on its way to Colombo, Sri Lanka. It crashed into the Key Bridge at 1:30 a.m. EST.
After the bridge collapsed, police started a search party for anyone who could be trapped under the bridge’s rubble. The ship’s 21 employees were on board at the time of the crash, 20 of them being from India and one being from Sri Lanka. They were stuck on the boat until rescue efforts were sent out.
Two people that were in a car while the bridge collapsed were rescued from the water, one being unharmed and the other receiving medical treatment at the Maryland Medical Center.
There were employees who worked for Brawner Builders filling potholes at the time of the collision. They were originally from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. The victims who died from this collapse were Jose Mynor Lopez, Dorian Cabrera, Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandolva, Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, and Carlos. Carlos’ name has not been fully released yet.
A temporary route has been opened for ships to use while the bridge is being cleaned up.
