At about 3 pm on March 16th, 2024, Mt. Vernon’s Varsity Winterguard performed their show, “Gravity,” for Indiana High School Color Guard Association state finals at Center Grove High School. An hour later, they received their gold medals, having placed first.
The color guard has had a history of success this season, placing well in every show they competed at. They also received first in sem-istate, which was held at Hamilton Southeastern High School on March 2nd. The guard’s season is not finished, though. They also compete in Winter Guard International, so even though their competitions with IHSCGA have ended, their WGI competitions have not.
WGI finals are very competitive, and the guard placed seventh in the nation last year.
This year, they are expecting to be one of the top five guards in the nation. WGI finals are taking place from Thursday, April 11th to Saturday, April 13th, and the guard will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio, where they are held.
For those interested in supporting the guard, tickets are available on Ticketmaster through the WGI website.
