The end of the school year is approaching quickly, and soon students will be entering the last few weeks of the year. With the last nine weeks of the school year, it is not uncommon for students to begin to lose interest in their academics. Summer is on everyone’s mind, and no one wants to do homework on nice days. Even though the school year is ending soon and summer is closer than ever, students’ grades and behavior in class matter more too.
This is especially true for the students who are preparing to take SATs and other important tests that will be vital to the remainder of their high school and college careers. The fourth quarter is not a time for rest. Students need to step up and lock in to finish off the year strong.
There are many options that students have to keep themselves focused and present in their academics so that they can finish off the school year strong. Having a planner is one great way for students to keep track of their assignments, as well as other things that they need to get done. A planner can be digital or physical, and is particularly great for those with strict or busy schedules.
While pushing oneself to be the best is very important, it is not the only thing that can help students to be the best versions of themselves. Creating healthy competition amongst one’s peers is also a great way for students to gain the inspiration to put time and effort into their work this quarter. Getting together with friends that share the same classes and creating goals is a good way to build that healthy competition.
Maintaining a healthy work and school balance is also very important because if a student prioritizes their job over school work, their grades will showcase that. It is important for students to not undermine the value of anything in their lives, but one’s academics should always hold value in one’s life. How students perform today is a huge deciding factor in the rest of their lives and the work that is put into school is very important. Making sure that there is a balance between work and school can be done by scheduling a majority of one’s hours on weekends and breaks so that school and work do not overlap.
Something that many students seem to forget is that being present in class does not just mean being there physically, it means being there mentally as well. Being a part of classroom discussions and involving oneself in the assignments is a big help in preparing students for both in-class tests and quizzes and standardized tests. If the teacher allows it, gum is a good way to promote focus because it delivers oxygen to the brain as well as activating it. Having a good diet and eating a balanced breakfast before school will help students better focus on what is going on in the classroom as well as make them more likely to be an active member of classroom discussions.
No matter the way a student spends their time preparing for class, though, time management is key. Every student should take into consideration their future and put effort in, no matter the quarter, as what one does today could be what decides one’s future tomorrow.
