There are many books today that have had a movie adaptation, but even more books that deserve to be on the big screen. Here are some recent books that deserve to have movies made of them.
“Vespertine” by Margaret Rogerson is the first book that I think would gain a lot of attention on the big screen. The story is about a young woman named Artemisa, who lives in an orphanage run by nuns. She is training to be a Grey Sister, which is a group of nuns who cleanse the dead to help them move on to the afterlife. Her road to becoming a nun is interrupted due to dead soldiers being possessed and attacking her town. She is called upon by a very unlikely source to do her part to protect her town and fight for its safety. This book follows Artemisa on this journey. This book is packed full of sci-fi and fantasy, and will have any viewer on the edge of their seats.
“Restart” is a popular book by Gordon Korman. The book is about a teenage boy who is known around his school for being a bully. After he suffers from a head injury that results in severe memory loss, he is given another chance at life, which he takes full advantage of. He chooses to take his life in a completely different way than he had pre-accident. I think this book would be great as a movie because it has a good message and an interesting storyline. This book would also do great as a kids movie or coming of age movie.
“We Were Liars” by E. Lockhart is a great read for anyone who enjoys mystery or thriller books. The story is about a teenage girl named Cady, who was in an accident on an island that caused a major brain injury that led to memory loss and sickness. She returns to the island, which is owned by her family, and begins to try to learn the context behind her accident and what had happened to her. This book would be an amazing movie because it does a great job at keeping readers entertained and excited to see what happens next.
“Emergency Contact” is a romance book by Mary H.K Choi. The story is of Penny, a young college freshman, who meets a boy named Sam through her roommate. The book follows all the text messages between the two characters as they get to know each other and hide their budding relationship from the world. The book also has a story within the book told by Penny that allows the reader to understand her more. If this book was to be made into a movie I believe that it would be extremely successful and gain a lot of popularity from young people due to the unique way in which the movie would communicate the story.
While I believe that a lot of books deserve a movie, I believe those four books specifically would be successful if they were given the chance.
