2024 will be an important year for stargazers. There will be multiple once-in-a-lifetime events that will occur throughout the year. There will be multiple events ranging from meteor showers to a full solar eclipse. These events will span throughout the year sitting on dates in the spring through the winter.
The first major event of the year will take place on April 8, 2024, and will be a total solar eclipse. The path of totality will be visible throughout the eastern parts of North America including states from Maine to Texas, and some parts of Mexico. The eclipse will glide over parts of Mexico and the United States and will be the last total solar eclipse until August 23, 2044.
After the eclipse, April will still have a few more solar events including two meteor showers known as the Lyrids, and the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower. These phenomena will start on April 15, 2024, and end on May 27, 2024. More meteor showers will occur throughout the summer, with the Perseid Meteor Shower spanning from August 11, 2024, to August 13, 2024.
Fall will prove to have just as many events, with a partial lunar eclipse happening on September 18, 2024. The partial eclipse will be visible throughout both North and South America, Europe and Africa. From October 12 to October 19, 2024, the Tsuchinshan-ATLAS Comet will pass very close to Earth. The comet will make a beautiful trail across the sky so bright that it will be visible to the naked eye.
The year will wrap up with another final meteor shower from December 4 to December 17. The Geminid Meteor Shower will peak on December 14, 2024, and wrap up the year for astronomy.
