This article involves spoilers for anyone who has not seen the Star Wars or Marvel movies.
Star Wars and Marvel are two widely popular fandoms that Disney owns. Fans of both universes stretch throughout the world. Although its fame is widely known, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is at its lower peak in the past years than the older movies and seems to have worsened.
Star Wars had a strange season after the Skywalker Saga. Many fan-favorite characters such as Kylo Ren, Han Solo, Leah and Luke Skywalker were killed in the ending trilogy. Between the deaths and Palpatine coming back to life, it was a bizarre and chaotic way to end the movie trilogy.
Fans were later given “Mandalorian,” which made Star Wars, and Disney, skyrocket again. Grogu and Mando’s friendship melted hearts and the audience expected more.
What was given was “Ahsoka,” a show the community had been eager to receive, “Obi–Wan Kenobi” and “The Book of Boba Fett,” all three shows got decent ratings, varying around the low three-star marks.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been facing similar issues. After Marvel’s “Endgame” finished the main timeline, the audience was given TV shows and movies to keep the MCU alive. Whether that’s going deeper into character backgrounds, adding in new characters from the comics, or creating more parts for movies created; it is showing that Disney is trying to keep the MCU afloat.
Several movies and series created after “Endgame,” such as “Spider-Man Homecoming,” “Loki,” and “Black Widow,” were amazing and enjoyable to watch. Their storylines were interesting and complex, making viewers emotional with heartbreak and death.
It’s the releases such as “Eternals,” “Morbius,” and “Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantamania” that made the MCU start to become questionable. Dull humor, minimal advertising, terrible choreography, and weak plotlines left critics and audiences alike disappointed. In addition, with “The Marvels” rating of 2.7 stars, the movies do not seem like they are getting any better.
With “The Mandalorian” sparking the Star Wars fandom back to life, Disney must have tried to do the same with the MCU. Should Marvel stop making movies completely? No, but that does not mean more remakes of characters should be made. For example, movies about characters such as Captain America, or Ant-Man and Wasp, should add something new rather than exploring already flushed-out characters. Excited fans still hold high hopes for the movies coming out soon, though, which include “Echo” and “Venom 3.”
