As of January 12th, Mt. Vernon High School bowling finished off its Girls’ Varsity, Boys’ Varsity and JV regular season.
The Girls’ Varsity Bowling team finished their season in first place with a 10-0 undefeated record. The Boy’s Varsity team finished fifth in their division with a 6-4 record and JV finished in sixth place with a 4-6 record.
Catitlyn Anderson, 12, Emily Darst, 10, and Alexis Thornton, 10, all placed in the top ten final standings of the conference. For the boys, Jackson Dowden, 12, placed in the top ten boys standings. Anderson and Dowden qualified for the singles spot in sectionals.
Girls’ bowling advanced to sectionals and narrowly won first place overall against Franklin Central with a total pinfall of 1792-1758. Mt. Vernon and Franklin Central advanced to the stepladder and bowled for sectional champions, with Mt. Vernon being defeated and placing second, but still advancing to regionals. Anderson advanced to regionals in the singles spot.
During regionals, the Mt. Vernon girls placed second overall, punching their ticket to semi-state. In the regional champion stepladder, Mt Vernon placed third overall.
Anderson placed third overall in regional singles and advanced to the stepladder, where she became regional champion, also advancing to semi-state.
On January 27th, the Girls traveled to Ft. Wayne where they fought a hard battle, but unfortunately placed tenth overall, ending their season. The Mt. Vernon Girls’ Varsity team made history, making it the furthest that a Mt. Vernon bowling team had ever advanced in the postseason.
Anderson placed eleventh in singles, advancing to state which takes place on February 17th in Anderson.
