Mt Vernon has implemented a new program during SRT every other Monday, called Every Monday Matters. The goal of Every Monday Matters is to boost high school students’ mental health through slideshows and discussions about compassion, caring, mental health, and choices. After the introduction of this new interruption to Monday SRTs, students have had mixed feelings.
Some students have received this new event well; out of a class of 22 students, nearly half of students said that they enjoyed and used the lessons learned in Every Monday Matters.
Tony Crosby said, “I feel like Every Monday Matters has helped me, I hate Mondays, but Every Monday Matters helps me and gives me something happy to think about.”
Other students though have enjoyed Every Monday Matters less. Bryce Callahan said, “I really don’t like Every Monday Matters, it’s so boring and a waste of time.”
The main goal of Every Monday Matters, said Mrs Grimm the head counselor of MVHS,” is to support students into growing a positive mentality and give students a way to grow.”
Overall, Every Monday Matters has had some success. Some students have enjoyed what it is about while others have not.
