“The Marvels” is the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise. With every movie in the franchise, it seems the MCU just keeps getting worse and worse. This is definitely part of the top five worst MCU movies.
The movie was released on November 10, 2023. The director of the movie was Nia Dacosta. She directed movies like “Candyman,” “Little Woods” and “Hedda.” Although those movies did well, “The Marvels” struggled to reach $200 million at the box office, a small amount for any Marvel Movie.
In “The Marvels,” Brie Larson returns to play Captain Marvel, with Teyonah Parris as Iman Vellani and Kamala Khan as Monica Rambeau. These three are probably the best part of this movie. They have a great girl dynamic that was fun to watch and laugh at. Everything else in the film is just confusing.
The whole movie felt very rushed. Everything the movie was trying to do was going way too fast to create any emotional moments. There are so many side plots to the movie that do not get wrapped up, or go by so quickly that I do not even realize it is over.
The villain in this movie is also just mediocre. She just reminded me of a female Ronin from “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Her motives made sense, but her constant targeting of Captain Marvel did not. Her whole story arc is weak as well. I did not care about her at all.
The sad thing about the MCU now is that a lot of movies rely on MCU fans to watch the shows. If fans do not watch other related shows, they may be very confused in some aspects of the films and other content they release.
I do not know what the MCU should do, but they need to step up their game and fix their franchise. I say the MCU has been failing me, and this movie proved it.
